Trapped squirrel forces Greggs store to close UK news

An overly adventurous squirrel forces the Greggs store to close after being trapped inside.

The animal was caught at a Perthshire Pastry Specialist branch on Saturday and was not released into nearby Faskally Forest until Tuesday night.

Greggs’ Twitter account revealed the critter’s movements the next morning, joking about a “new launcher” in the store and changing its display image to reflect.

In a post with hundreds of likes, Greggs tweeted: “Some of you may have noticed that we have a small new starter at Pitlochry Greggs this week. “

“Friendly locals offered help to lure the Greggs squirrel out,” said the High Street favorite, citing help from a high school “on the way.”

It added: “But at the end of the day, if you had a delicious overnight stay at Greggs, would you leave? No, of course not. We were right to make Greggs squirrels part of the family.

“After letting us run around, we managed to catch the Greggs squirrel unharmed. Thank you, uh, enthusiastic first shift.”

The store has been closed for deep cleaning and will reopen later this week.

Greggs posted a picture of the nameplate made just for the squirrel, along with a video of it.

It is unclear whether the briefly employed squirrel is entitled to severance pay.
