Robert De Niro: Woman ‘stole Christmas presents’ from star’s NYC home while he slept upstairs The Art News

A woman has been arrested for allegedly breaking into Robert De Niro’s New York home while he was sleeping upstairs.

Initial reports from Manhattan said the woman was a suspected serial thief who was trying to De Niro’Upper East Side townhouse for rent.

However, NBC New York later reported that the woman was actually caught trying to use the Hollywood star’s iPad. The outlet said the star’s 10-year-old daughter was also sleeping at the property.

Police said they found a 30-year-old woman in the living room of the home shortly after 2.45am New York time (7.45am UK time) on Monday and arrested her.

Officials did not release her name.

While the woman was being detained, De Niro came to the living room.

A spokesman for the 79-year-old actor said he would not issue a statement on the alleged attempted robbery.

The spokesperson said the property was a temporary rental home the star was using.

The basement door of the East 65th Street building showed signs of forced entry, officials said.

De Niro is known for a string of critically acclaimed films, including Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Godfather Part II, Goodfellas, Cape Fear and The Irishman.

He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1975 for his performance in The Godfather Part II and in 1981 for his performance as boxer Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull.
