PITTSBURGH (AP) — Albert Pujols hit his 703rd homer Monday night to break a tie with Babe Ruth for second in career RBIs.
The 42-year-old slugger connects to St. The St. Louis Cardinals left Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller on a two-pointer into left field to tie the sixth inning. It was Puyols’ 35th career home run at PNC Park, the most he’s hit at any visiting field.
The drive gave Pujols 2,216 RBIs, matching Ruth’s history. Hank Aaron holds the record with 2,297.
Puyols has 24 homers this season, one of four players in major league history with 700 homers, along with Barry Bonds (762), Aaron (755) and Lou silk (714 counts).
Puyols has taken no hits in his eight career careers with Keller.
