CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers’ defense suffered a setback Wednesday as safety Jeremy Chin was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
A key player in Phil Snow’s defense, Keen will miss at least four games. He was injured in the first quarter of Carolina’s 26-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and did not return. He was seen on the sidelines with his right thigh heavily wrapped.
Chinn, 24, led all rookie tackles in 2000 and was one of three players with at least 100 tackles in the franchise’s pre-history two seasons.
Keen has started 35 of 37 games since joining the Panthers as a second-round pick in 2020, missing two with knee and ankle injuries.
The Panthers have signed safety Juston Burris from practice to replace Chinn on the 53-man roster. Burris, 29, is a seasoned veteran who has started 20 games for Carolina over the past two seasons.
Burris lost his starting spot to Xavier Woods, who signed as an unrestricted free agent last season.
The Panthers also signed safety Kenny Robinson to practice. Robinson, a 2020 fifth-round pick, was waived by Carolina after the preseason.
