NSWC Crane Operations Director Receives DoN Civilian Service Commendation Medal > Naval Sea Systems Command > Saved News Module

Dane Speer, Operations Director of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), received the Department of the Navy’s (DoN) Civilian Service Commendation Medal. The CSCM is the Navy’s fourth-highest civilian award. According to the citation, Speer received “professional accomplishments for his “professional performance as Acting Division Chief, Acting Deputy Chief and Acting Business Director in the Crane Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center.”

“I’m honored and grateful to receive this medal recognition,” Speer said. “Working with so many great people who make a decisive impact on some of the nation’s most technical Department of Defense programs every day, has It’s humbling.”

As business director, Speer oversees strategic functions such as workload planning and assessment, technology capability health assessments, strategic and corporate business planning, investment portfolios, recruiting plans and various other metrics. The Chief Client Advocacy and Strategic Planning Office and other programs report to Mr. spear. He also advises the technical director and division commander of NSWC Crane on the overall health of the command and alignment with the mission.

His citation reads: “His leadership, dedication, preparation and coaching empowered employees in new roles, delivered exceptional products and services…and provided the necessary continuity to strategic and tactical operations.”

Speer holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University (1988), a BA in Finance and Business Administration from Indiana State University (2012), and a Certificate in Public Administration from Indiana University (2012).
