Nacogdoches police looking for killer

The Nacogdoches Police Department is asking area residents to stay vigilant and keep an eye out for a black man who is a suspect in Monday night’s murder of a Nacogdoches woman.

According to a Facebook post on the department’s website, officers from the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to a home in the 2300 block of Elizabeth Street at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, saying the caller informed a family member was found dead. Elizabeth Street is off Old Taylor Road just south of Austin Street.

Nacogdoches police arrived at the scene and found an adult female victim, believed to have been the result of a stabbing. The victim was identified as Rose Catherine Garner, 60, of Nacogdoches. The Justice of the Peace has ordered an autopsy.

The Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene and worked all night. Investigators have obtained a murder warrant from Nacogdoches for the victim’s boyfriend, James Edward Harris, 60.

The suspect, a black male, is believed to be driving a grey Ford Expedition with the Texas license plate CD3-M505. If anyone sees the suspect, do not approach him, but call 911.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s location is asked to contact the Nacogdoches Police Department at 936-559-2607 or the Nacogdoches Crime Stoppers at 936-560-INFO. It will be posted when more information becomes available.
