Man dies after getting stuck in walk-in freezer of NY bakery U.S. News

A man has died after being found unconscious in a walk-in refrigerator in a New York bakery.

According to US media reports, the 33-year-old man accidentally locked himself in the refrigerator at about 3 a.m. and was cleaning out the refrigerator.

He was found more than five hours later.

ABC News reported that he came to the United States from Mali as a father of five.

One of his colleagues said the man worked for three months at Beagle Bakery in Brooklyn.

Berger Bakery manager David Greenberg said in a statement: “We are devastated by the loss of staff in this accident.

“Families have been notified and our deepest condolences go out to them.

“Grief counselors are on-site to provide counseling and support to families and our staff.

“This is an ongoing situation and we are cooperating with all investigations. We have no further comment at this time.”

The manner and cause of the victim’s death were not known, police said.

Beigel’s is located in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush neighborhood.

Its customers include airlines, hotels and other businesses.
