LIVE UPDATE: At least 146 killed in Seoul Halloween event

Rescuers were seen in Seoul's Itaewon nightlife district on Saturday night.

At least 59 people were killed in a Halloween incident Saturday night near Itaewon in Seoul, according to the Yongsan Fire Department chief.

At least 150 others were injured, the official added.

The cause of death was not immediately provided, but the chief said that during the Halloween celebrations, many people fell, causing casualties.

The fire department said dozens of people had “sudden cardiac arrest” and at least 81 told emergency officials they had “difficulty breathing,” according to Yonhap news agency.

According to the person in charge, a total of 848 emergency units were dispatched, including 364 firefighters and 400 police officers.

Police have cordoned off the area and social media videos showed people lying on the street.

Authorities have not provided exact details about the cause of the incident or the condition of the injured.
