Las Vegas Strip: Knife attack outside casino leaves two dead, six injured U.S. News

Two people were killed and six injured in a knife attack outside a Las Vegas Strip casino.

The attacker, identified by police as Yoni Barrios, 32, was armed with a large kitchen knife in the “unprovoked” attack.

Showgirls and buskers are believed to be among those injured in the attack on the Las Vegas Strip at about 11:40 a.m. on the Las Vegas Strip opposite the Wynn Casino and hotel.

Of the six wounded who were taken to hospital, three are in critical condition, while the other three are said to be in stable condition.

The Clark County coroner’s office named the two deceased Las Vegas residents Brent Hallett, 47, and Maris DiGovani, 30, according to local news reports.

Barrios, who does not live in the city, fled on foot but was chased by passers-by and arrested.

He faces two counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Friday.

Police recovered a “long-bladed broadsword” said to have been used in the attack.

No other suspects are believed to be involved.

Police said it was too early to speculate on a motive and the attack was “incomprehensible”.

However, a witness told a local TV station that the suspect was a chef who wanted to take a photo with a group of showgirls and his knife.

When the group refused, he lashed out, the woman told KTNV.

Other witnesses said they saw “a lot of blood” and heard the victim scream.

Jason Adams told KLAS-TV: “This guy ran up and started stabbing the lady in front of me, she was running around the escalator, she was trying to get up from under the bridge, her girlfriend was trying to help her,” he said. Say.

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said: “Locals and tourists are the victims of this crime.”

“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragedy,” Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak wrote on social media.

“At the state level, we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to provide resources locally and ensure that the Las Vegas Strip remains a safe and welcoming place for all to visit.”
