Jon McBride as Vice President of Technology and Training at Autel Robotics

Autel Robotics is pleased to announce that Jon McBride, with 21 years of drone industry experience, has become the company’s new Vice President of Technology and Training. The job has global responsibilities – a step up from his former senior training position at Autel, where he has enormous influence. Jon is well known in the drone and drone space for his honesty, product understanding, and constant focus on customers.

Brings 35 years of drone, drone and RC experience to Autel

Before getting into the drone industry—even before the consumer industry itself was really born—McBride had a long-standing passion for RC aircraft, starting 35 years ago. He owns and operates a successful RC hobby shop in Utah that attracts hobbyists from far and wide.

With the popularity of drones more than two decades ago, McBride became a key player in the development and implementation of emerging drone technology. In this new era, where drones are no longer just for hobbyists, but also for public safety and industry-specific applications, the focus is on making them affordable for all – and Jon is at the heart of that.

A key step in Jon’s career was co-founding Rocky Mountain Unmanned Systems (RMUS), where he worked with enterprise drones to develop much-needed training in the marketplace that called for more education on this emerging technology.

Enhanced Autor

Last year, Jon joined the Autel team as Director of Training. He spends most of his time traveling around the country training customers and dealers on how to get the most out of their Autel products, especially the Dragonfish eVTOL series. In his experience, Jon can sometimes provide important feedback to help the engineering team improve the Dragonfish scope.

“One of the reasons I joined Autel Robotics was because I learned that manufacturers don’t always have clear direction or training for their products — it’s an industry-wide problem,” he said. “My passion is trying to educate people and do manufacturer certification training.”

In the spirit of establishing formalized training, he partnered with the Autel team to establish the Autel Robotics Training Center program. ARTC was built from the ground up to guide users in the operation, maintenance and safe use of Autel drones.

“We are developing content that is FAA compliant so we can be the first drone manufacturer to require a certificate to operate Dragonfish,” said Mariah May, Autel team member who worked directly with McBride to build the training program. “We have received some great feedback, [customers] Feeling very ready to go into coaching training. “

new roles in the future

McBride’s new role expands his formal responsibilities from training to having a greater impact on new product and technology development based on customer needs and feedback.

In his words, “My new role will include learning about Autel technology, educating and training our dealer and customer base, working directly with engineers and R&D to improve our products, and bringing brand reliability to the masses.”

McBride’s career has included business ownership, military leadership and technology development. Now it has entered an exciting new phase. Both McBride and Autor are delighted to have him on the leadership team.

“I’m excited to be partnering with Autel as we move into a future that promises to be the best industrial drone manufacturer on the planet,” Jon said.
