In pictures: During a partial solar eclipse | UK News

Astronomers across the UK were able to see the solar phenomenon today as the sun appeared to be “bitten”.

This impressive location is the result of a partial solar eclipse, which occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth.

Observers around the world headed outside to watch the moment it happened, with those in Russia’s West Siberia expected to have the best view.

People are advised not to look directly at the sun to avoid eye damage.

Dr Robert Massey of the Royal Astronomical Society said the eclipse could cause the moon to block the view of “part or all of the bright solar surface” and the sun would “look like it was bitten”.
