International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has selected Cognizant as its global technology services partner.
With 2,800 lawyers and other legal professionals from more than 25 offices around the world, London-based Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is one of the largest (and more prestigious) law firms in the world.
Following a competitive review, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer hired Cognizant, an American multinational IT consulting firm with 340,000 employees worldwide, to improve, oversee and manage its IT operations.
Under the new multi-year agreement, Cognizant will act as a technical advisor to help Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer develop a technology transformation roadmap for the next few years.
The deal comes at a time of major digitally-driven change at the law firm. Harnessing the power of technology can not only help them serve their clients better (well-known examples include using artificial intelligence for legal research or digitizing processes with legal counsel), but it can also change the way they work internally, from employee experience to back-office operations.
“Many legal services firms are at an inflection point and are beginning to accelerate their digital transformation and business modernization,” said Manju Kygonahally, Principal at Cognizant. “We are proud to support Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s journey and contribute to its success.”
The agreement will also allow Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to outsource its IT processes to Cognizant. The New Jersey-based company will provide 24/7 managed services for the management of IT infrastructure and applications, as well as IT service desks.
The deal has nothing to do with freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s work for Cognizant. Cognizant regularly engages the law firm to provide both in-transaction expertise (eg, Freshfields advised Cognizant on its 2020 acquisition of EI-Technologies in France) and legal expertise (eg in corporate and employee disputes).
