Dog in backpack accidentally passes X-ray machine airport warning | US News

Take out your laptop, make sure your liquids are in airtight bags – and don’t forget to remove your dog from your carry-on.

But one traveler didn’t heed those security procedures after a dog was spotted curled up in a backpack through an X-ray machine at a Wisconsin airport.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said the puppy’s unexpected journey happened at the Dane County Regional Airport.

TSA’s Great Lakes division tweeted: “When traveling with any animal, please notify your airline and learn about their regulations.

“At the checkpoint, remove your pet from its bag and send everything, including the empty cage, into the machine for screening.”

X-rays showed the puppy lying in the backpack, which was shown in a gray security tray.

The TSA tweeted out a video showing the “proper way to travel with pets,” showing a man taking his cat out of its cage and carrying it through a security checkpoint.

Other screening options may be available “if you think your pet will try to escape,” the agency said.

TSA is no stranger to spotting pets. In 2015, they A chihuahua is reunited with its owner Police found the dog in a checked suitcase.

In that case, the owner “had no idea” the dog had crawled in, and the agency said she was “shocked when we told her we had her dog.”

This week’s security confusion appears to have occurred due to confusion among dog owners about the proper process for scanning their pets.

TSA spokeswoman Jessica Mayle told USA TODAY that the passenger had “no knowledge” of the need to screen animals and did not tell TSA officials.

She confirmed the dog, a dachshund Chihuahua mix, came out of the machine unhurt on Sunday, “just a little timid”.

According to the TSA website, animals should never be put through an X-ray tunnel.
