Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy dies at 66 Ents & Arts News

Voice actor Kevin Conroy – best known for his voice over Batman in the cartoon – has died at the age of 66 after a brief battle with cancer.

Conroy has voiced The Dark Knight in 60 different productions over 30 years, including 15 films such as Batman: The Phantom Mask and 15 animated series including Batman: The Animated Series, spanning nearly 400 episodes and over 100 hours TV shows, as well as video games.

Mark Hamill, 71, who played the Joker with Conroy in Batman: The Animated Series, said: “He’s one of my favorite people on the planet and I love him like a brother.

“He really cares about the people around him – everything he does shows his decency.

“Every time I see him or talk to him, my spirit lifts.”

Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, added: “For generations, he’s been the definitive Batman.

“It’s one of those perfect scenarios where they find the right people for the right part and the world is a better place for it.

“His rhythm and subtlety, tone and delivery – all of that also contributes to my performance.

“He’s the ideal partner – it’s a complementary, creative experience.

“I can’t do it without him. He will always be my Batman.”

Born in Westbury, New York, in 1955, Conroy studied acting at the Juilliard School with Christopher Reeve and his roommate Robin Williams.

Conroy also starred in live-action Bruce when DC Comics showed several crossover episodes of Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman Wayne.

Diane Pershing, who plays Poison Ivy across from Conroy, wrote on Facebook: “He really put in a lot of time (the Comic Con event) and made all his fans happy.

“He will be missed not only by the cast of the show, but also by his many fans around the world.”

Emmy-winning casting and dialogue director Andrea Roman, whose credits include Batman: The Animated Series, said in a statement: “Kevin wasn’t just me who had the privilege of casting and directing. Actor – He’s a 30-year-old best friend + years of kindness and generosity that know no borders.

“Kevin’s warm heart, delightful deep laughter and pure love of life will always be with me.”

Conroy is survived by husband Vaughan C. Williams, sister Trisha Conroy and brother Tom Conroy.
